Focal of France has decided to get into the headphone business, and have created an amazing set of headphones called the Spirit One that our own Teri got a chance to audition at last fall’s Rocky Mountain AudioFest. She was impressed enough to add them to our growing collection of headphones. We’re hoping they’ll arrive sometime in the next month, with a price around $299. As with many things days, we’re seeing more and more price increases. Both Rega and Focal are going to be raising their speaker prices on March 1. If you place your speaker order BEFORE the end of February, we can still honor the current pricing. (this is not an increase for Rega components, just speakers). So get your Rega and Focal Speakers now before the pricing goes up.

Many audio folks out there have been skeptical over the years about ‘switching amps’ or ‘class D’ type amps. Times have changed. We’ve now heard several very good switching amps, including the Devialet integrated unit we had a loan for awhile. But one of our favorite new Integrated amplifiers is the Audio Research DSi200. When Audio Research does something, they do it right. They always focus on the music. If you haven’t had a chance to hear our production ARC DSi200, it’s time to give it a listen! (We had a pre-prodution unit on loan last year for a month). The character of this Integrated is extremely natural, neutral, fast, and powerful. We’ve now broken in a lot of our new speaker lines with it (Nola, Harbeth, etc.) and we are continually impressed with what this Integrated does with each and every speaker. Review here. If you are in the market for an easy to live with, energy efficient, and extremely natural and musical Integrated (and yet incredibly detailed with a holographic soundstage), then you HAVE to give the DSi200 a listen. It’s that good.

Stereotypes Audio of Portland is proud to represent LFD of England, with our first piece, the LE MkIV Signature Integrated Amplifier. LFD takes the view that the quality of the components in a circuit is of more importance that the circuit itself when it comes to determining the overall performance of an audiophile design. They pay particular attention to the casework to help reduce the effects of microphony, and their use of superior parts and additional hand-made silver wiring reduces grain and noticeably improves transparency. Ok, that’s a lot of technical speak, but the real proof is in how it sounds. We’re in the process of breaking it in, but it already sounding quite wonderful. So, come check out this new piece and determine for yourself how this level of attention to detail really DOES make a difference.

New Rega RP6! This is news I know many of you have been waiting for, the indirect successor to the great Rega P5 turntable, the newly unveiled RP6 turntable continues the upgrades to each of their next level of turntables. The difference this time, is that this is not just a ‘RP5′… the new turntable is positioned to be somewhere between a P5 and P7, but early listenings have been so favorable, some believe this may be un par with a P7.
