Audio Research DSi200 Integrated Amplifier. Give it a listen. Really.

Many audio folks out there have been skeptical over the years about ‘switching amps’ or ‘class D’ type amps. Times have changed. We’ve now heard several very good switching amps, including the Devialet integrated unit we had a loan for awhile. But one of our favorite new Integrated amplifiers is the Audio Research DSi200. When Audio Research does something, they do it right. They always focus on the music. If you haven’t had a chance to hear our production ARC DSi200, it’s time to give it a listen! (We had a pre-prodution unit on loan last year for a month). The character of this Integrated is extremely natural, neutral, fast, and powerful. We’ve now broken in a lot of our new speaker lines with it (Nola, Harbeth, etc.) and we are continually impressed with what this Integrated does with each and every speaker. Review here. If you are in the market for an easy to live with, energy efficient, and extremely natural and musical Integrated (and yet incredibly detailed with a holographic soundstage), then you HAVE to give the DSi200 a listen. It’s that good.

We have the new Cambridge Audio Azur 651 Integrated Amplifier and the Azur 651 CD Player are in and ready to demo. Adding to the list of great new Cambridge Audio Gear, are the Cambridge Audio Minx speakers, DAC Magic Plus, and the NP30 Network Player! The 651 has a Class-leading power of 75 Watts per channel remains. Separate transformer taps for left & right channels, twin rectifiers and separate PSUs for dual-mono operation of the left and right power amplifiers. Meanwhile a high grade film type volume pot means the 651A also performs as well at low levels as at higher volumes. Cambridge Audio decided that rather than adopting the more common and simpler approach of including USB connectivity on a CD player, they developed a direct USB audio connection to the 651A amplifier. You can simply plug your Mac or PC directly into the 651A amplifier and with the addition of your chosen speakers, you’ll enjoy a whole world of digital music stored or streamed from your computer. It’s in-house developed USB audio processor extracts audio data directly from your PC hard drive – bypassing its soundcard – and takes care of the critical DA conversion process inside the 651. The 651 CD player continues to use the same great DACs from the DAC Magic, with twin Wolfson DAC chips. Come in and check out all of the new offerings from Cambridge Audio!

When Pioneer exited the High-end TV market, they left a huge void. Sure, prices we’re coming down and some aspects to the TVs out there were getting better, but none had those rich inky blacks that the Elite Kuros had. Well, the Elite TV is back as an LED now, with Pioneer and Sharp working together this time to make the best LED out there. Is it as good as the famous KURO? Yes! It’s even better any many aspects. AND it has all of today’s modern features including 3D. And when it comes to 3D, it’s a top performer with full THX 3D certification. Stereotypes Audio decided to invest in the new 70″ Elite TVs to have one of the best in the business on our demo floor to show case our amazing line of BluRay Universal players and to compliment our great line of Home Theater AVRs and speakers. Stereotypes Audio is proud to welcome the well regarded Nola line of speakers to Portland. We have a pair of Boxers and a pair of Contenders that have just arrived! We’ve un-boxed them and after some break in time, we can’t wait to play them for you! Our first listen is already promising! Stop by and give these speakers and audition! The Boxers are bookshelf speakers that are an amazing value for the sound they put out, and the Contenders are a very reasonably priced floorstander. (reasonable, since they offer a taste of what their $58k+ baby flagship speakers offer)

Harbeth Speakers back at Stereotypes; New Compact 7ES-3 in cherry ready to demo!

We’re excited to have the Harbeth Speaker line back in at Stereotypes Audio, and we’re very excited to be among some of the first dealers to have a pair of the brand spankin’ new Harbeth Compact 7ES-3s in stock! These are so new, even most reviewers don’t have their hands on them. And from what we’re hearing here (and from the early reviewers), these speakers are really something special. Harbeth’s are well regarded in the industry of having some of the most natural sound that is just plain true to the music. The new 7ES-3s have the ultra-clean RADIAL2 cone technology, and the new ‘Open Weave’ tweeter. This is paired with a new cabinet design, that focuses on better cabinet internal wall-damping and a lowered port tune frequency. All creating more dynamics and greater transparency. When Cambridge Audio released the first DAC Magic, it became quite the instant sensation for it’s amazing sound and high value. Since then, the DAC landscape has become increasingly more competitive. Stereotypes Audio of Portland is proud to represent LFD of England, with our first piece, the LE MkIV Signature Integrated Amplifier. LFD takes the view that the quality of the components in a circuit is of more importance that the circuit itself when it comes to determining the overall performance of an audiophile design. They pay particular attention to the casework to help reduce the effects of microphony, and their use of superior parts and additional hand-made silver wiring reduces grain and noticeably improves transparency. Ok, that’s a lot of technical speak, but the real proof is in how it sounds. We’re in the process of breaking it in, but it already sounding quite wonderful. So, come check out this new piece and determine for yourself how this level of attention to detail really DOES make a difference.
