When Cambridge Audio released the first DAC Magic, it became quite the instant sensation for it’s amazing sound and high value. Since then, the DAC landscape has become increasingly more competitive. To counter this, Cambridge Audio has just unleashed it’s update, the DAC Magic Plus! Adding to an already impressive original release, it now comes with: a reworked USB input that now supports 24-bit transfer for ‘better than CD quality’ playback of digital music files of up to 24/192kH, a dedicated headphone amplifier with headphone control, enchanced Anagram upsampling, a new digital preamp function to connect directly to a power amplifier or powered speakers, and much much more! Great “Anytime” Gift Ideas and the Pioneer Elite Music Tap

For that may have missed out on a few desired audio gifts or maybe have a birthday coming up…. we have a few suggestions. The new Pioneer Elite Music Tap X-SMC-4 is a great all in one system for those than might have gone with that well marketed brand. It has it’s own iPod/iPhone dock that slides out, speakers, AirPlay wireless streaming, Bluetooth, DNLA, Internet Radio, built in WiFi, 2.5″ LCD screen, and much much more… add it to your kitchen, den, work space… Other great options, we have a wonderful pair of RS170 wireless headphones from Sennheiser; the new Focal XS Book powered speakers are great for computer or small room set ups; the Logitech Squeezbox Touch is always a great addition to any system; the new Cambridge Audio NP30 Music Server is a nice step up in sound from the Squeezebox for streaming; we have new Tivolo Model One radios in; and the yearly Christmas favorite Oppo BluRay players (don’t forget the cables you’ll need); and one of our favorite affordable upgrade stocking stuffers, the Shunyata Venom 3 power cable. Rocky Mountain AudioFest: Recap

We had a great time at this year’s Rocky Mountain AudioFest Show. This was our first trip to the show in Denver, and apparently it was one of the biggest ones yet. A great time was had by all, good music, great audio, amazing food, and even our hotel had over 15 amazing microbrews on tap. Does it get any better? We really enjoyed hooking up with several of our favorite distributors and brands.

Our friends at Rega were putting out some good tunes, and we’re showing off their fun and affordable new Rega Mini Fono, with a built in USB connection for basic vinyl ripping. The also were playing our favorite new affordable piece, the Rega Brio-R Integrated Amplifier. Steve Daniels, owner of the Sound Organization was also on hand to show off the latest audio gear.

Naim as also showing off the latest in their Uniti all in one/streaming/Integrated Amplifier, the new SuperUniti. This is their top of the line Uniti product, and sounded amazing! We continue to be impressed with this simple to use, but wonderful sounding Uniti music streaming units. They are on par or surpass the sound of some of their best traditional CD disc players. To top it off, they had an iPad just sitting their that they encouraged everyone to pick up and find whatever favorite track they wanted to demo.

We also heard nice music coming from a room with an Audio Research VSi60 Integrated Tube Amplifier being fed by their ARC CD5 player and transparent, powering some nice Nola speakers.

One of our favorite events their was the Canjam, featuring a HUGE ballroom full of headphones, headphone amps, DACs and headphone accessories. We were so moved and impressed by some of these products, that we may just have to pick up a few new product lines that we heard there. Stay tuned! (get ready for your ears to be spoiled). There were so many new exciting products coming down the pipe from our current vendors to talk about, but we can’t let you know all of the secrets yet. We are even considering a few other new companies to carry…. but you’ll just have to stay tuned.

It’s definitely a good time to be a music and audio fan. Some of the best vinyl and digital playback options we’ve heard in years. Can’t wait for next year!

The new Bird from Focal is here! If you haven’t heard any of the buzz yet on this amazing compact system, prepare to be blown away. The Bird is a concept line of Focal loudspeakers created to satisfy the expectations of music lovers in terms of both innovation and ease of use. Maximum music in the smallest possible size in an affordable package. All with a strong identity. It’s great for the office as a desktop computer set up, allowing for the main unit with sub to sit below the monitor, or as a small room 2.1 system to hang right on the wall with your flat screen TV, a kitchen, bedroom. Anywhere you want an easy set up, but amazing sound. It comes with it’s own built in DAC, integrated amplifier, and subwoofer. There are three speaker pack options: Little Bird, Bird, or Super Bird. The Bird is the bridge between “real” music (tangible disc based), and “virtual” music, on a hard disk or a music player, thanks to integrated wireless audio transmission. Virtual music is easy, you just have to connect the iTransmitter to the Apple music player and it will automatically transmit to the Power Bird in wireless mode: same audio transmission as a CD player, no compression, no loss. Thanks to the free Focal Remote application, your music will follow you from one room to another, everywhere in the house, simply by selecting the area. During the second half of 2011, Focal’s wireless option will be completed by the USB Transmitter to connect to your Mac or PC for audio transmission of your entire sound library. We’ve got some great new product in this week! We are now carrying the well received affordable line of Epos Speakers. These are the ones that The Absolute Sound repeatedly praises for it’s high value sound. We have the Epos Epic 1, Epic 2 and Epic 5, and will soon have a couple of their other models. We just got the new Simaudio 340i Integrated Amplifier (sold some places as the i3.3) into stock here at our Portland, Oregon store. We’ve been playing the heck out of it and it’s ready for a listen! We’ve got the fully stocked DPX model (DAC, Phono, Balanced inputs) with all of the bells and whistles. You can always order your unit as a base model, and add the extras later if you want. This is a really sweet sounding amp with good power for those looking for an all in one unit. It even has a Home Theater bypass so that you can integrate it into your home theater system. (Hey, why not have your cake and eat it too! Great Stereo and Surround). 100 watts into 8 ohms and 200 watts into 4 ohms. Connections galore, it even has a 1/4″ headphone jack on the front (not always common on hi-end gear).
