About

Remember when listening to music was an experience? It still is, at Stereotypes Audio. Located in Portland, Oregon, we’re the premier stereo store in the Northwest,
providing top-name brands and real-people prices.

At Stereotypes, we’re proud of being a high-quality, affordable alternative to the big-box stores. You’ll experience the difference when you walk in our door. We’re passionate about music, and how it should sound.

Stereotypes is the brainchild of Teri Inman, owner. She’s enjoyed a lifelong passion for music that included a stint in an all-girl rock band in high school and the literal wearing out of her extensive vinyl collection in college, where “I was listening to music when I should have been studying,” Teri laughs.

Teri’s career in audio began in the 1980s at Hawthorne Stereo, and later continued on as a manufacturer representative.

But her dream was to have her own shop. In 1994, she opened Stereotypes in the Irvington neighborhood of Portland. The store relocated to Morrison Place in 2007.

As a female business owner in a male-dominated field, Teri is very conscientious about creating the ideal setting for music appreciation for both men and women; an environment where everyone feels more at home than in a store.

One trip around our showroom, and you’ll appreciate Teri’s commitment to a quality experience. A friendly, non-commissioned sales staff and three dedicated sound rooms set us apart from the typical shopping experience. Whatever your musical tastes, we’ve probably got it on vinyl. Let us put a record on for you. It’s time to get passionate about listening to music again!
