2Q 2017 Featured Product: Naim Audio Uniti Core Reference Hard-Disk Server
Naim Audio makes hard disks sexy! Ok, no… not in the way you think. But it’s true, that it’s what’s inside that counts (not that the case work is not Naim Audio level quality. It is.). And we don’t necessarily mean the actual ‘guts’ (although those are very nice as well), but… it’s how it performs. We know that many of you have been sitting on the sidelines of the digital music file front, waiting for the best solution to serve up your music without a lot of hassle. Well, that day has finally arrived. Enter the Naim Audio Uniti Core Reference Hard-Disk Server. Forget all of the computer complications, Naim Audio has you covered.
Our featured product this quarter is the Naim Audio Unit Core Reference Hard-Disk Server, offering up a top of the line Disk Drive to RIP your CDs, creating bit-perfect copies of your vast collection. And not only that, it provides some of the best metadata of any system we offer. What’s metadata? That’s all of the album art and liner notes you’ve been missing in this modern age. Naim Audio uses Rovi’s vast database to provide you with the most information-rich experience of your music collection, all without the need to pay for a costly annual service.
Why THIS server?
Naim has made this easy. After initial set up, just start feeding it your CD collection. It RIPs CDs in about 5 minutes, with some of the best error correction available. Your RIPs will be bit-perfect flawless. The compatible Naim Audio app is one of the most mature/established apps available, and provides some of the best metadata information about your favorite albums. It will take you back to the days of actually sitting down to listen to your music, while you actually read the record jacket liner notes. And… no need to fight with the computer in order to start enjoying your favorite music. Removing the computer from the chain also improves the sound quality, and not by a small margin either.
So… what does it have? … and what do I need?
To set up the Naim Audio Uniti Core, you will need a router, WiFi, ethernet, an internet connection, tablet/smartphone, and a UPnP™ compatible DAC/Player. It has a Type A USB connection, Ethernet, and Digital BNC output. (Digital Output Connect your external DAC or digital-input amplifier to the precisely timed, re-clocked transformer-isolated S/PDIF output on the rear panel). It has a built-in linear power supply with a low-vibration aluminium casework
What will it work with?
You can Serve your music to as many as 12 Uniti all-in-one players or other Naim streamers with up to 32 bits/384 kHz. Uniti Core will scan the network for shared audio files, including your iTunes library. It also serves music files to other non-Naim DACs and systems, with the ability to store up to 100,000 tracks.
It’s user upgradeable.
It has a user installable hard drive, with an easy to use ‘drive caddy’, making it drive installation plug in play once the drive is installed on the caddy (hard drive not included). You can choose to fit an HDD (Hard-Disk Drive) or SSD (Solid-State Drive) with a capacity of up to 8 TB – enough space for 100,000 tracks. Alternatively, you can connect an external NAS (Network-Attached Storage) or a USB-connected storage device. NAS and USB storage can also be used as back-up locations. Updates happen via WiFi. Just update your system at the touch of a button via the Naim app. Easy peasy.
What file formats?
Supports a broad range of music formats including WAV, FLAC, DSD, Apple Lossless, AIFF, AAC, Windows Media-formatted files, Ogg Vorbis and MP3.
And what about sound?
Um… hello? This is Naim Audio. They have a long history of establishing the benchmark for reference level CD players. Naim Audio saw the future of music file delivery early on, and invested heavily in their technology-based reference level audio gear and apps. You are essentially getting the best of both worlds that Naim Audio has to offer.
If you’ve been sitting on the fence waiting to jump into the music file pool, but we’re waiting for both ease and top sound… it’s time to get wet! The water is just right.
