Featured Product: Shunyata Everest 8000

“2020 Absolute Sound Product of the Year”  “2020 Golden Ear Award, The Absolute Sound”

Shunyata Research has been Stereotypes Audio’s ‘go to’ brand for power cables and power distribution for years. We were blown away by the performance of their Denali power distributor when we got our hands on it several years back now. It was the pinnacle of performance for Shunyata… or so we thought. Now comes Shunyata Everest, a product that goes to even greater heights (… it is Everest).

The sales team has been so blown away by this new product, that we thought it was time to spend some time with it for our marketing purposes. As the person in charge of marketing/social media, I often get a chance to hear much of the great gear here at Stereotypes Audio, but this was a different type of product for me. I haven’t spent a ton of time with Power Distribution products. To get acclimated to a new ‘baseline’ (for me personally. With the better resolving ProAc D48Rs, Moon by Simaudio 680 DAC), I got in some listening time in first without the Shunyata Everest 8000. That said, these were all cut from the same cloth as my own ProAcs/Moon DAC, just the next much higher up steps in sound quality. Initial listening was done with the Shunyata Venom power strip with no filters in use, but with the great Shunyata Anaconda and Sigma power cables. This was still an amazingly revealing experience, but I wasn’t fully prepared for the Everest upgrade. Adding Everest to a system of this caliber can be thought of as adding that final missing piece when everything else is in place at a similar level of reproduction quality. These pieces were definitely ready for this last part to be filled.

The Sound

There were elements that immediately jumped out at me as ‘better’, but other aspects revealed themselves slowly. Or so I thought. Once you switch back to the system without Everest in the mix, everything that was ‘magic’ suddenly collapses/disappears. It’s still top level playback, and yet that intangible ‘magical experience’ has been greatly diminished.

Returning the Everest to the signal path one more time, it all becomes clear. Literally. Vocals and instruments clear up and no longer seem ‘muddy,’ a huge breath of air fills the entire soundstage and surrounds each and every performer/instrument. The attack on keys and strings are immediate and missed subtleties like bass string vibrations on a note slide hits you in such a visceral way that you just ‘know’ it’s real. It’s the difference between a reproduction and a real experience.

How do you put a price on such a flagship product? Well… you first have to hear and experience it to believe it’s full value to your system. Contact us today to schedule a visit to the summit of Everest.
