We have several new Naim Audio pieces in that are on our floor and ready for audition. A new streamer (ND5 XS), a new preamplifier (NAC-N XS), and one of Naim’s more affordable separate amplifiers (NAP 200) to compliment these pieces. First up, the new Naim ND5 XS, this is the ‘junior’ model to the well reviewed NDX. While in a slimmer case, this is hardly a ‘stripped down version,’ it can do almost all that it’s big brother does, all with the same sonic prowess. It can be used at the core of your home audio network in both a wired or streaming scenario. It handles all lossy files and high resolution files up to 24/192, as well as being able to stream internet radio stations. You can connect your CD player, USB sticks, and computer, and it can integrate easily with the Naim DAC or any connected Naim CD player, Preamplifier or an optional FM tuner radio module. (more…)

Stereotypes Audio of Portland, Oregon has just picked up the Micromega HiFi line from France. We’re still unboxing, breaking them in and putting them through all of the paces, but the early sampling has shown great promise. We had a demo unit that we really liked and are hearing about their great value when it comes to features, power and sound. We plan to have several of their products such as their Pre-Amplifiers, Integrated Amplifiers and Power Amplifiers. Stay tuned for more information as we dig in further. We recently got the new Marantz M-CR603 Receiver in, and we’re still finding out new things that it can do. It’s even AirPlay compatible with a system update. Think of it as a compact swiss army knife of audio, streaming and networking audio, and it STILL has a CD drive. How rare are physical disc transports getting these days? It will play CDs, CD-Rs, MP3s and WMAs. It’s also able to network via Ethernet using DLNA. It streams Pandora, Rhapsody and Napster, all while driving up to four speakers. When Cambridge Audio released the first DAC Magic, it became quite the instant sensation for it’s amazing sound and high value. Since then, the DAC landscape has become increasingly more competitive. To counter this, Cambridge Audio has just unleashed it’s update, the DAC Magic Plus! Adding to an already impressive original release, it now comes with: a reworked USB input that now supports 24-bit transfer for ‘better than CD quality’ playback of digital music files of up to 24/192kH, a dedicated headphone amplifier with headphone control, enchanced Anagram upsampling, a new digital preamp function to connect directly to a power amplifier or powered speakers, and much much more! It’s hard to believe that Focal could come out with another simple solution as good as The Bird 2.1 setup, but they’ve released another compact winner! The Focal XS Book is the ultimate computer 2.0 system, a true mini-monitor equipped with Focal speaker technologies and able to reveal the richness and dynamics of your multimedia audio contents. We had a great time at this year’s Rocky Mountain AudioFest Show. This was our first trip to the show in Denver, and apparently it was one of the biggest ones yet. A great time was had by all, good music, great audio, amazing food, and even our hotel had over 15 amazing microbrews on tap. Does it get any better? We really enjoyed hooking up with several of our favorite distributors and brands. (more…)

This is great for Recording Professionals, Home Studios and Project Studios that want to get the high end direct digital signal out of your iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone. There are so many great apps out there that make these Apple devices indispensable to the modern recording professional. It also can be a great audiophile dock to get the digital signal into a better DAC (since the iPad, iPod and iPhone has a ‘modest’ DAC in them). They have an outboard power supply, a video output, a AES/EBU XLR digital Audio Out, a Toslink digital audio out, a S/PDIF / Co-axial Out, and even a USB socket for easy syncing. We just got the new Simaudio 340i Integrated Amplifier (sold some places as the i3.3) into stock here at our Portland, Oregon store. We’ve been playing the heck out of it and it’s ready for a listen! We’ve got the fully stocked DPX model (DAC, Phono, Balanced inputs) with all of the bells and whistles. You can always order your unit as a base model, and add the extras later if you want.
